What is Long-Term Psychological Therapy?
Long-term psychological therapy provides an ongoing, collaborative space to understand yourself more deeply and explore the experiences, difficulties and patterns that affect your life.
Rather than focusing only on an immediate difficulty, therapy can explore how your thoughts, emotions, relationships, past experiences and everyday functioning connect over time.
For autistic and ADHD adults, this may also include understanding neurodivergence in the context of your own life and developing approaches that reflect your individual needs, values and goals.
Why Someone Might Choose Long-Term Therapy
Explore your identity, needs, strengths, values and the experiences that have shaped how you understand yourself.
Understand patterns of overwhelm, demands and exhaustion, and explore what may help life feel more sustainable.
Explore communication, connection, conflict, expectations, boundaries and your responses to other people's emotions.
Explore anxiety, uncertainty, overthinking and emotional experiences, and develop ways of responding that work for you.
Explore executive functioning, routines, sensory needs, work, study and the practical demands of everyday life.
Explore the impact of feeling different, misunderstood, rejected or excluded, and the beliefs that may have developed over time.
Therapy and Neurodivergence
Long-term therapy is not about treating Autism or ADHD, or teaching someone to appear less neurodivergent. It is psychological therapy shaped around the individual, their experiences, difficulties and goals.
Therapy can provide space to better understand your needs, recognise patterns that may no longer be helpful, process difficult experiences and develop ways of navigating life that work for you.
